The Moiré Halftone Knit is the piece the label is named after, and the one that took the longest to get right. The halftone pattern looks printed from across the room. Up close, every dot is a stitch.
What jacquard means
Jacquard is a way of knitting where two or more yarn colours are worked into the fabric at the same time. The machine picks which colour shows on the face of the knit, stitch by stitch, so the pattern is built into the structure instead of sitting on top of it.
Why not just print it?
A printed pattern on a chunky knit tends to look flat, and it wears off the high points of the texture first. Because the halftone on this sweater is knitted in, it cannot crack, peel or fade away from the yarn. It ages with the sweater rather than ahead of it.
The gradient
The pattern fades from black across the chest to stone at the hem, the same way a halftone photo fades from shadow to highlight. Getting that gradient to read clearly in a chunky gauge meant making the dots larger than we first planned, which is also why the pattern lands a little differently on every piece.
How to wear it
- On its own with black denim and boots
- Over a collared shirt, collar out
- Under the Side Door Denim Jacket when it gets cold
Care
Hand wash cold with a wool or delicate detergent, press the water out gently in a towel and dry flat. Never hang a wet knit, as the weight of the water will stretch it out of shape. Fold it to store rather than hanging it.
